KWS Stole the Show
This was likely my last Skynyrd concert unfortunately. I have seen them about 20 times, making me the biggest Skynyrd fan. The show was disappointingly short, less than 1hr and 30 minutes. I just want to remember them as they were, not what they have become. They played all the old stuff, which never gets old, but come on guys, you've put out 6 new albums/CD's since 1991 and only played one new song (Skynyrd Nation)? Every song was played to perfection as is typical with the boys, but I remember the days when they just rocked the house. Even if you want to just play all the classic, they could've played more. They played only the stuff that gets played on the local Classic Radio station, yet there are so many classics they could've played. I was in Philly when they opened for Frampton and blew him away. In fact, Peter was almost boo'ed off the stage after Skynyrd played. Like the changing of the guard, this was when KWS stole the show, just like Skynyrd outplayed Frampton back in '76. Even the Boys came out of the bus and stood backstage watching in awe as Kenny whaled away. At the end of Voodoo Child, there was Johnny and Rickey giving the Band a standing "O". Skynyrd will never get the next generation to follow them if all they play is their classics. The crowd is getting older and showing their age, with little to no younger generation fans, except for my 23-year-old son. Boys, I love you and still work out to your music every day. I own every CD/album, even the original Street Survivors album, but maybe it's just time. Like a proud athlete, maybe it's time to know when to say goodbye.
